INFRASTRUCTURE / GITHUB

An ESXi inventory without the manual collection.

Collect host hardware and configuration data over SSH with a PowerShell script built for multiple hosts.

THE PROJECT, IN PRACTICE

What you can do with it.

01

Collect across hosts

Read a host list and run the collection concurrently within the configured throttle.

02

Handle interrupted work

Retries and resume support reduce repeated collection after a failure.

03

Capture useful hardware detail

Gather version, BIOS, CPU, memory, storage, networking, and driver information into CSV output.

FROM IDEA TO USE

How it works.

  1. 01

    Prepare the environment

Install PowerShell 7+, VMware PowerCLI, and Posh-SSH.

  2. 02

    List the hosts

Create a host file and choose concurrency, retry, and SSH-state options.

  3. 03

    Collect and review

Run the script and inspect the resulting inventory CSV.

Run a collection
.\Collect-ESXiData.ps1 -HostFile hosts.txt -ThrottleLimit 5 -PreserveSSHState

PowerShell command; use one line when running it. Requires authorized host access and the modules documented in the repository.

TAKE IT FOR A SPIN

Start here.

Install the required modules and review the SSH behavior before running against your authorized hosts. The README lists every supported option and collected field.

STATUS & REQUIREMENTS

PowerShell 7+ with VMware PowerCLI and Posh-SSH. Host permissions, connectivity, and SSH configuration determine what can be collected.
